Essential Question
How can a large trucking company reduce its fuel budget?
Critical Questions

 Teacher Tips

This unit will demonstrate to students how small details can have a huge impact on the fuel costs of running trucks. During the unit, students will learn the value of regular tune-ups and maintenance, the effects of different fluid types, the results when using alternative fuels, the importance of alignments, and the effects of tire wear.

Students should work in groups of four, although teachers may assign teams of three or five students, if needed. The teams should be arranged by an instructor with prior knowledge of individual students' classroom behavior.

Student work should be approved and supervised by the teacher.

All proper forms will need to be submitted for job shadowing or field trips to places such as truck stops or tune-up facilities. Before students go into the field, the instructor should review team research and teamwork and address professional behavior expectations.
