In Where in the U.S. are We Vacationing? students use coordinates of latitude and longitude to determine the absolute location of various points in North America. The lesson uses research-based strategies such as graphic organizers to promote student understanding and requires the active participation of all students. Worksheets for formative assessment are included. The preparation required is minimal, but the teacher will need to make sure that globes and maps include lines of longitude and latitude. This activity would be a good follow up for students after they have been introduced to longitude and latitude. (author/kkh/vm)
