Professional Commentary

In this lesson, teachers use a variety of resources to model an information-gathering process for primary learners. Students listen to stories, read written texts, and examine photos and diagrams to answer key questions related to a topic of study. Using guided questions printed on an information wheel, the teacher records student responses, showing how to take notes by writing only key words and phrases. Guiding the listening, looking, and learning process helps students gain confidence and develop strategies for gathering information for independent research projects. (author/ncl)
