PROFESSIONAL COMMENTARY

This chapter in The Story of SUSTAIN describes the Kent State University SUSTAIN project that focused on developing and implementing an inquiry-based approach for mathematics courses primarily targeted at preservice middle grades and high school teachers. The goals of the KSU project were to promote significant conversations among mathematicians and mathematics educators about the teaching of undergraduate mathematics and to develop, implement, and study an inquiry-based approach to teaching undergraduate mathematics. This chapter describes the process of developing four new courses for prospective teachers. (author/sw)
