The Story of SUSTAIN

Models of Reform in Mathematics and Science Teacher Education

This volume is a collection of case studies of reform efforts in mathematics and science teacher education conducted at the 13 state-assisted universities in Ohio. These reform efforts were part of a larger initiative that involved faculty at more than 35 public and private, two-year and four-year institutions of higher education. The projects reported here were all supported with funds from Project SUSTAIN (Schools and Universities Statewide Teaching Approaches to INquiry), a multiyear program sponsored by the Ohio Board of Regents, with additional funding from the Ohio Department of Education. The objective was to introduce into preservice teacher preparation programs the improvements that Project Discovery promoted for in-service science and mathematics teachers to meet the challenges of the 21st century. You can download the entire PDF or access individual case studies below.
