Engaging Teachers with Technology

Online Applications

Use these online tools to engage your preservice and practicing teachers in a technology-integrated, project-based learning experience.

Seeing Reason

This application allows groups to organize and synthesize their thinking and research findings. Groups can develop a concept map to illustrate how the various aspects of a topic are related.

Build a Case Study

The Case Study Builder guides users through the process of creating a case study that includes InTime videos. Users add questions for reflection and activities for extended thinking. When the case study is finished, the user can print the case study and supporting documents.

Structured Activities

Exploring Project-Based Learning

In this activity, participants identify basic elements of project-based learning (PBL) after viewing video examples. Participants then discuss the role of the teacher and the students in a PBL environment. Finally, students discuss the benefits of incorporating technology into PBL.

What's the difference between the incidental use of technology and meaningful technology integration?

In this structured activity, participants view three classroom video scenarios and categorize them as examples of literacy, adapting, or transforming uses of technology as outlined by Bernajean Porter's Technology and Learning Spectrum.

Online Professional Development Modules

These modules explore a variety of topics related to instructional strategies. They can be used as is or bits and pieces of the modules can be incorporated into teacher education courses or professional development programs.

Instructional Module: Project Based Learning
The Project-Based Learning (PBL) module is a two-part module designed for a two- to three-hour class or session. Part One, Guided Process, is designed to give participants a brief introduction to project-based learning. Part Two, Group Participation, engages participants in reading and activities for experiential, project-based learning.
