Engaging Teachers with Technology
Online Applications
Use these online tools to engage your preservice and practicing teachers in a
technology-integrated, project-based learning experience.
Seeing
Reason
This application allows groups to organize and synthesize their thinking and
research findings. Groups can develop a concept map to illustrate how the
various aspects of a topic are related.
Build
a Case Study
The Case Study Builder guides users through the process of creating a case study
that includes InTime videos. Users add questions for reflection and
activities for extended thinking. When the case study is finished, the user can
print the case study and supporting documents.
Structured Activities
Exploring Project-Based Learning
In this activity, participants identify basic elements of project-based learning
(PBL) after viewing video examples. Participants then discuss the role of the
teacher and the students in a PBL environment. Finally, students discuss the
benefits of incorporating technology into PBL.

What's the difference between the incidental use of technology and meaningful
technology integration?
In this structured activity, participants view three classroom video scenarios
and categorize them as examples of literacy, adapting, or transforming uses of
technology as outlined by Bernajean Porter's Technology and Learning Spectrum.
Online Professional Development Modules
These modules explore a variety of topics related to instructional strategies.
They can be used as is or bits and pieces of the modules can be incorporated
into teacher education courses or professional development programs.
Instructional
Module: Project Based Learning
The Project-Based Learning (PBL) module is a two-part module designed for a
two- to three-hour class or session. Part One, Guided Process, is
designed to give participants a brief introduction to project-based learning.
Part Two, Group Participation, engages participants in reading and
activities for experiential, project-based learning.
Constructivism
as a Paradigm for Teaching and Learning
Teachers taking part in this online opportunity will study the theory of
constructivism in detail and discover why so many educators have decided to use
constructivist strategies in their classrooms. The workshop presents practical
strategies, educational tools, and resources so participants can begin to
implement constructivism.
Cooperative
and Collaborative Learning
Teachers taking part in this online opportunity will be introduced to major
principles of cooperative learning. Participants also learn how these
principles can be integrated into classroom activities by working through
relevant resources, discussion, and online projects.
Inquiry-based
Learning
Teachers taking part in this online opportunity will discover the value of
inquiry-based learning activities, which teach respect for one's own interests
and the interests of others. Participants are challenged to create an engaging
inquiry-based learning project in their own classrooms.
